Boundary Waters Permits, Deposits & BWCAW Fees

BWCAW Travel Permits: Travel permits are required to camp within the BWCAW.  The purpose of this system is to protect the water and other physical resources of the area and to assure users of a high quality wilderness experience.  Permits are very limited and need to be reserved early.  You are allowed up to 9 people with a limit of 4 watercraft on a single permit.  Since the weekends are more desirable try to start your canoe trip on a Monday or Tuesday.

BWCAW Fees: The reservation fee is $12.00 per permit, covering up to 9 people for your entire trip.  Also, a camping fee of $16.00 per adult and $8.00 per youth 17 and under.  For those planning multiple trips into the BWCAW there is a seasonal pass offered.  The cost for these is $64.00 per adult and $32.00 per youth 17 and under and Golden Age or Golden Access passport holders.  These fees must be paid at the time the permit application is made.  The $12.00 reservation fee is non-refundable.

Deposits: $100.00 per person deposit is required for All-Inclusive Canoe Trip Packages.

$25.00 per person for all partial outfitting.

 Balance due upon arrival.

Permit fees are not part of the deposit.
